Vassar College Confers 604 Bachelor's Degrees
POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — President Catharine Bond Hill presided over the 143rd Vassar College commencement ceremony today, conferring Bachelor of Arts degrees to 604 graduating students on the grounds of the college's outdoor amphitheater.
Among Vassar's class of 2007:
- Sixty students were elected to Phi Beta Kappa for overall academic achievement, with majors in Anthropology (2), Art (3), Asian Studies (1), Biochemistry (2), Biology (1), Chemistry (2), Chinese (2), Cognitive Science (1), Drama (1), Economics (6), English (9), Environmental Studies (3), French (1), Geography (3), German Studies (2), Hispanic Studies (2), History (2), International Studies (1), Italian (2), Jewish Studies (1), Mathematics (5), Media Studies (1), Music (1), Neuroscience and Behavior (1), Philosophy (1), Physics (1), Political Science (5), Psychology (6), Russian (3), Science, Technology, and Society (2), Sociology (1), Urban Studies (2), and Women's Studies (1).
- The college's Phi Beta Kappa Prize for 2007 was awarded to Emily Adaline Bruce, who majored in Biochemistry.
- Twenty graduates were elected to the Sigma Xi national honor society for the sciences, with majors in Astronomy (3), Biochemistry (4), Biology (2), Chemistry (4), Computer Science (1), Mathematics (4), Physics (6), and Science, Technology, and Society (1).
- Eight graduates were selected for both Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi.
- One hundred and twenty-two graduates were awarded General Honors.
